Goals and Objectives of this Course:

  • Define Culturally Responsive Teaching, explain its core principles, and discuss its potential benefits for diverse student populations.
  • Analyze personal frames of reference and develop strategies for interrupting bias in teaching practices.
  • Explore the diverse needs of students related to gender identity, disability, language diversity, and religious background, and plan strategies that create a more inclusive learning environment.
  • Gain a foundational understanding of Minnesota-based American Indian history and contemporary Tribal Nations, and connect this knowledge to strategies for better serving Native students.
  • Apply the “mirrors, windows, and sliding doors” framework to evaluate existing curriculum.
