Credit Conversion
1 Teaching Channel with Learners Edge graduate level, continuing education credit = 15 PLUs (Professional Learning Units)Â
Each Teaching Channel with Learners Edge 3-credit course requires approximately 45 hours for course completion.
Initial (3-year) Certificates
:To progress to a Professional (5-year) Certificate, educators must complete 25 PLUs (Professional Learning Units) per year of employment, totaling 75 PLUs.
For Initial Certificates Expiring/Renewing in 2025 or Later: Educators must complete 30 PLUs per year of employment, for a total of 90 PLUs to renew their certificate.
Professional (5-year) Certificates
:Educators holding Professional Certificates must complete 15 PLUs per year of employment for a total of 75 PLUs in order to renew as a Professional (5-year) certificate. PLUs must be accumulated during the terms of the five (5) year Professional Educator Certificate.
Teaching Channel with Learners Edge courses can be used toward PLUs. Choose professional development or Flex Credit courses for renewal needs only. Select 1, 2, or 3-credit courses to meet your renewal needs and work toward salary advancement.
Advanced (7-year) Certificates: Educators who achieve an aspirational benchmark in addition to the 60 PLUs can progress to an Advanced (7-year) certificate. Evidence of aspirational benchmarks must be submitted to RIDE when renewing online on My eCert. Aspirational benchmarks include conferral of an advanced degree.
Move toward a Master’s degree with the American College of Education 3-Course Bundle (9 Credits) for just $105 a month for 12 months with optional payment plan.
