In education and in life, developing social and emotional learning (SEL) skills is paramount for the holistic growth of students. Identity wheels are powerful tools to support this development, especially with middle and high school students!
Simply put: identity wheels are visual representations of an individual’s multifaceted identity. They include aspects like race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and personal interests.
Creating an identity wheel helps students gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the various elements that shape their identities. This process of self-reflection and exploration promotes self-awareness, fosters empathy and respect for others, and develops relationship-building skills.
