While kids may rehearse lines for a school play or practice soccer between games, many rarely get opportunities to prepare for the social situations they encounter daily. For students who learn or think differently, practicing these scenarios becomes even more essential.
This activity offers an engaging way to develop social skills through role-playing. By acting out various scenarios, students can enhance their social awareness and build essential skills, including:
- Recognizing social cues (verbal and physical) to understand others’ feelings
- Taking others’ perspectives
- Demonstrating empathy and compassion
- Showing concern for others’ emotions
- Understanding and expressing gratitude
- Identifying strengths in others
- Recognizing diverse social norms, including unjust ones
- Adapting to situational demands and opportunities
- Caring about and contributing to the well-being of family, friends, school, community, the environment, and society
In this activity, students will role-play common social scenarios. The provided scripts can be used in one-on-one or small-group settings, printed for in-person activities, or assigned as homework for additional practice.
