Reading Instruction for Multilingual Learners

Goals and Objectives of this Course:

  • Use prompts about teaching reading to MLLs, to describe assumptions and insights of practitioners, researchers and self, including how the information relates to professional education practice and growth.
  • Design lessons and activities focused on translanguaging, phonology, and morphology.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate reading assessments with a MLL lens.
  • Implement instructional strategies related to reading development including phonology, syntax, vocabulary, semantics, morphology, and pragmatics.
  • Challenge the status quo by designing a lesson that builds background knowledge or activates prior knowledge.
